July 22, 1942 - September 26, 2016
Jim Knupp, age 74, of Little River, SC (formerly Charlotte) died Monday, September 26, 2016 as a result of neuroendocrine cancer. James Robert Knupp was born in Hanover, PA. He grew up in Richmond, VA, finished high school in Rochester, NY, and migrated to the Carolinas, graduating from Montreat Anderson College and St. Andrews Presbyterian College and settling in Charlotte. Jim was an avid sports fan, had a keen interest in observing politicians and their accomplishments, possessed a passionate sense of humor, was direct but kind, intense but fair, bright and sincere but foolish, committed, loyal, generous and loving, and a devotee of philosophy. He had a low regard for mendacity, unreliability and ignorance born of close-mindedness. Jim loved adventure and young people. He also had a special softness for old people. He saw himself as a servant. Jim espoused and revered conservative and Christian values, but embraced liberal social values....he saw no conflict. Professionally, he was a salesman for Xerox Corp., Craftsman Printing Co., State Printing Co. and various other, premiere printers in the Carolinas, advertising and marketing endeavors in Myrtle Beach, and public relations and marketing activities there and in Charlotte. He conceived, designed and developed the annual Memorial Day Observance/Picnic at Crown Memorial Park. He managed a Mattress Store in North Myrtle Beach until his retirement. Surviving are his son, Bryan Robert Knupp (wife Suzanne), granddaughter Selwyn and grandson Bryson of Waxhaw, NC, daughter Suzanne Dale Sandbo (husband Dean), granddaughters Courtney and Brooke and grandson Cole of Weddington, NC: two brothers, Dr. David Knupp of Richmond, VA and Rev. Thomas Knupp of Raleigh, NC and their loving families..."unca Jim's" nieces and sisters-in-law. He requests that any memorial expression be an occasional thoughtful or humorous visit to his memory, in your own way. A Memorial Service will be held at Lee Funeral Home, 11840 SC-90, Little River, SC 29566 on Monday, October 3rd, 2016 at 11:00 AM. The family will begin greeting friends at 10:00 AM. Simply Cremations of Charlotte is serving the family of Mr. Knupp.
